What is the General Chemistry Lab Simulator ("GenChemLab")?

(Screen shot)

GenChemLab is an OpenGL-based application intended to simulate several common general chemistry exercises. It is meant to be used to help students prepare for actual lab experience. It could also be used in cases where laboratory facilites are not accessible, for instance in K-12 schools or home schooling.

At present, supported experiments include titration, calorimetry, freezing point depression, vapor pressure, and spectrophotometry.

Some example lab exercises are available here.

What is needed to run GenChemLab?

The current version should run on any UNIX system with OpenGL and Qt 3.1 or later. The program is being developed on RedHat 9 (Linux 2.4, Pentium III CPU).

Note From Isis (pixelxx)

I am developing and testing the Unix version with the Agar GUI, which requires SDL and FreeType, on Fedora Core 3. It should work on most UNIX systems.

A Win32 (Windows 95/NT/2000/XP) version is also available. This version will only run on Intel or AMD processors.

Is it free?

Yes, of course :) GenChemLab (copyright) is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
